Emperor Raja Laut

Two boats – two special ways to explore Indonesia

From next year we have decided to keep it simple with our Indonesia liveaboard itineraries.

Emperor Harmoni, our amazing Phinisi-style vessel who is fresh out of her first annual dry dock, will now focus on taking our guests around a region that covers Banda, Ambon, areas of Papua such as the remote Triton Bay and, of course, the world-famous Raja Ampat.

The brief for the beautiful Emperor Raja Laut will be to travel a wider area so she can explore Raja Ampat but also take in the amazing Komodo region of this incredible part of the world.

Being a bespoke liveaboard – built in the traditional Sulawesi Ironwood by one of the country’s most respected boat builders – Harmoni offers the ideal way to dive in Indonesia. She is one of only a select few liveaboards in this region to have two engines and, at 48 metres, she comfortably welcomes 24 guests in 12 well-appointed ensuite cabins.

However, the beauty of the boat is surpassed only by her surroundings. Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago that boasts a treasure trove of natural wonders with Raja Ampat right among very best.

This remote and breathtaking destination, located in the heart of the Coral Triangle, has earned a reputation as one of the planet’s most pristine and biodiverse marine ecosystems where dazzling coral reefs, vibrant marine life, and untouched islands converge to create a paradise unlike any other.

It lies in the province of West Papua, on the western edge of the Pacific Ocean and the name translates as “Four Kings,” a reference to the four major islands that dominate the archipelago: Misool, Salawati, Batanta, and Waigeo. These islands are only a fraction of Raja Ampat’s overall landmass, but serve as gateways to an underwater world that defies imagination.

Beneath the surface lies of the Coral Triangle is approximately 75% of the world’s known coral species and over 1,500 species of fish which is why so many divers have it on their bucket list.

But Raja Ampat’s beauty isn’t confined to under the water. The islands are a haven for explorers and nature enthusiasts with limestone karst formations rise dramatically from the sea, forming towering cliffs and hidden lagoons that are perfect for kayaking and photography.

Emperor Raja Laut will be doing trips in this amazing region but also provide guests with the chance to explore the wider reaches of Indonesia – including Komodo.

Raja Ampat

Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, spans over 1,700 square kilometres, encompassing a diverse array of marine ecosystems that beckon divers from around the globe.

Aboard the elegant Raja Laut you can breathe in this special place. A schooner-style-inspired yacht built from tropical hardwood, the fine accommodation caters for just 12 guests in six cabins meaning you have plenty of space and get a very personal experience of life on board.

Raja Laut means ‘King of the Sea’ and stepping on board you’ll experience a truly regal sense of sailing the Indonesian seas.

When you think of Komodo, your mind might instantly conjure images of the famous Komodo dragons prowling the land. However, what lies beneath the waves is equally enthralling.

Manta

From the breathtaking coral gardens to thrilling encounters with mantas and sharks, every dive is an exploration of wonder and beauty.

While renowned for its manta ray populations – the majestic wingspan of these gentle giants can reach eight metres making them an awe-inspiring sight as they glide gracefully through the crystal-clear waters – Komodo also offers fantastic macro diving opportunities. Divers with a keen eye will be rewarded with sightings of pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefish, and various critters camouflaged amid the vibrant coral.

Not that we leave out a visit to see the famous dragon. These magnificent creatures, descendants of ancient monitor lizards, have thrived on the Indonesian islands for millions of years and their ancestors walked the Earth alongside dinosaurs. They are a sight to behold and continue to captivate guests to this special place.
