It’s a Famous Five-star itinerary of Red Sea marvels

It might be called ‘Famous Five’ but there is much more to our wonderful Red Sea itinerary than a small number of dive sites.

Varied marine life, stunning coral reefs, world-famous wrecks and a whole load of other thrills besides make this a trip that can’t be described using figures.

The listed Famous Five are Abu Nuhas, SS Thistlegorm, Ras Mohamed, Brother Islands and Salem Express. Just those are more than enough to provide wonderful underwater adventures – even for guests who have seen and sampled many, many dives.

But there are other delights to behold as well on a bucket-list trip that combines history and nature in perfect harmony.

It is certainly one our legendary Red Sea dive guide, Sonia Goggel, would recommend trying.

She says: “The Famous Five itinerary is truly something special, a diver’s dream that’s hard to beat.

“Start with the Brothers – an absolute standout in anyone’s book.

“Then there’s Ras Mohammed, a place that never fails to impress with its abundance of life and beauty.

Thistlegorm

“And, of course, the Thistlegorm, one of the top ten wrecks in the world. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out on something remarkable. The Salem Express in Safaga is another beautiful wreck, although it carries a bit of sadness with it. It’s an easy dive, but it’s the history that really makes you pause.

“The Rosalie Moller is another fascinating wreck, but it’s not always accessible. The weather often keeps it off the list for many and, at 40 metres, it’s not necessarily a dive for everyone.

“Then you’ve got the Abu Nuhas wrecks and the Dunraven – both outstanding dives in their own right. And in Safaga, the Panorama Reef is truly something to behold with depths that are just right, ranging from 15 to 30 metres, and easy accessibility for those interested.

“Ras Mohammed continues to be a fantastic site for its fish and soft coral, and the Brothers – well, they add that extra thrill with their rich marine life and the chance to see sharks.

Diving at Brothers

“If you’re looking for an itinerary that has it all, this one is hard to top.”

And, coming from someone who has dived this part of the world for so many years, that is quite a recommendation.

So why not treat yourself to a five-star, Famous Five experience?
